Misty Water’ is track 4 on “Kiss and Tell”. It’s a 12- bar blues song.. E, A, B… All the way! Kind of rolls along at a relaxed pace that sucks you in…
The title harks back to a former time maybe.. “Muddy Waters”, something like that. I’ve been listening to Justin Townes Earle a lot lately and the superb album, “Harlem River Blues”. The line, “Dirty water gonna cover me over..” definitely influenced me. That’s a line I think about a lot… I’m gutted I didn’t discover JTE until after he passed.. what a great musician (RIP). I discovered the Kinks' song, "Misty Water" after releasing the album as well.
Actually, although I’m pretty sure the JTE track was the inspiration for this song, I also have to admit that I drive to my office most days and I go past a caravan park called, “Misty Waters”, in the small village of Lloc in Flintshire, so who knows… maybe it’s not as clear cut as I think…. 🤔 Those butterflies flapping their wings the other side of the world, hey???
Somewhere in this song I’m pretty sure it's a vague reference to the addictive side of alcohol and drugs as well.. not in any way advocating them but just that we don’t get to be the judge in every situation either. Better people than me have succumbed to these so it’s not my place to say what they should do… We all got a lot of shit in the bucket, dude…

How many times does that happen., hey…? You say no to another drink, but once it’s poured, you drink it, right…? Well, probably more often than not anyway… Same with ‘coloured crystals’.

The line that I must have pulled from somewhere because it doesn’t really match me is:

I don’t usually spot the disguise. Too busy complementing the mask to see what’s behind it…
And as for good intentions, well they’re everywhere… and they usually (or maybe this one is just me), break your heart…
The line that I keep going back to though, is”

Is that a definite regret??? Not like me to be so clear about that but I’m pretty certain I’m saying, “offer me the chance to do it again and I’ll say no….”
“Misty Water” is a bit different to the other tunes on ‘Kiss and Tell’ but I think I’ll come back to the 12-bar blues format again. There is something in it that allows really simple expression of some quite deep stuff.. I like it.. Hope you do too..
