Track 9 on 'Kiss and Tell' is, "Falling". It's another one of those songs Simon Cowell would hate but I reckon I'm pretty safely removed from his earshot... ;-)
I've always been impressed by the phrase "grace and favour" - I don't think I actually know what it means.. I've heard of a grace and favour homes (politicians mainly), but the term has stayed with me even when I don't quite understand it. The first line of "Falling" reflects this. It makes perfect sense to me, but maybe not to everyone...
"I've fallen out of grace
I've fallen out of favour"
Note: On that point, I don't think songs do need to be clear to everyone. I haven't got a clue about some of my favourite songs (Hotel California, Lady Grinning Soul, Metal Guru...). Sometimes lyrics sound right - they don't bare further scrutiny. I read a post on X recently where someone slated a songwriter for using a rhyming app. That's like criticising a painter for using green paint instead of mixing their own blend of blue and yellow... Get away.. Artists do what feels right. End of...
We all fall.. We fall over...; we fall in...; we fall out of...; we just fall!! Falling out of love is one the hardest. That is what this song is about and it's painful.
"Falling out of love is gonna break me
Falling out of love has left me blind"
The reason falling is so hard (IMO) is that we never know where the bottom is, what is going to break our fall. Falling is awful but not knowing when you will land is worse. Not knowing where, when or wat is will be like just ads a whole new world of pain to the situation. I don't have any answers. I just wanted to let you know that if you are falling, others have been there before you and it's gonna be OK (maybe...). Go with the fall but look for somewhere good to land too...
