The thing about being a songwriter is that you never switch off…. Kiss and Tell is the latest batch of songs that stream out of my conscious / subconscious mind, while I try and go about the daily stuff!!! I want to use the blog to tell the story of the songs in bite-sized chunks… The first track on Kiss and Tell is “Not Afraid to Bleed”.
‘Not Afraid to Bleed’ is an attempt to make sense of everybody having an opinion about everything!! How many times a day does somebody tell you “that’s not right” or “don’t do that”?
Sometimes they’re trying to help but not always. We just always want to give our opinion (well, some of us do…). So, the opening lines…
“They say you’re no damned good for me, but that makes me love you a little more than I loved you before”…
Every parents’ nightmare, right? We told you he/ she was no good for you but you went ahead and fell for them… Well, yes. Welcome to human agency. That’s what we do…
The song gets more reflective as it goes along.
‘Well, I said I was a man you could depend on… a little more than maybe it was true…”
It can’t be just me that through I could be better than I actually am…. (Surely)… When I said it, I really meant it, but stuff happened, things changed…. I never meant to hurt you
At the end of the day, I want to be able to open up to you without getting hurt. I want to share my dreams with you, tell you my deepest secrets, and not be judged.
I want to know that “when I cut myself, I’m not afraid to bleed”.
I think that’s probably what we all want, deep down. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for listening
